Windows are essential to your home’s beauty and comfort; they give you a wonderful view of the outdoors, protect the inside of your home from the elements and they let in sunlight to brighten up your home. Because they are so important to a home, they receive a lot of action. It’s important to keep your windows clean so that they can continue to do their job well.
Window glass can get dirty pretty easily, particularly with little hands or pets in the home, but fortunately glass cleaning isn’t difficult. Many Pella Windows and Doors Southwest windows have features that make it easier to clean the exterior of your windows from the inside of your house, too. Looking for easy to manage, new window cleaning process? Here’s what Pella Windows and Doors Southwest suggests:
- Begin by brushing off your window sill with a small broom or brush. The dirt and dust that gathers on the sill and ledges will get stuck there for a long time otherwise, and doing this first will also prevent smearing on the glass later on. Make sure not to use the same cleaning duster that you will eventually use to clean the glass!
- Run your vacuum’s dusting brush attachment on the side of your window screen that faces inside. You can also use this vacuum piece to suck up any leftover dirt and dust around your sills.
- Use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution, or an ammonia-free glass cleaner like Windex® or Sparkle® to clean your glass. You can blend your own vinegar-based solution by mixing one-part white vinegar to 10 parts water. Generously apply the cleaner to a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel and wipe down your glass from several different directions for the best clean.
- Let your windows air dry after cleaning and then rinse your glass with clean water if you see streaks.
We’ve got a few more tips, too! We recommend cleaning your windows on a cloudy day because the sun will dry the cleaning solution quicker and leave streaks on your glass. Also, our Pella Windows and Doors Southwest professionals prefer microfiber cloths since they are the least likely to leave tiny particles behind.
